No, unfortunately, you cannot do that. Taking a train in any circumstance is only available to those having a visa obtained in advance or to those who can enter China visa free.

If your landing happens to be in the morning or very early afternoon hours, you can think to take a direct ferry from Hong Kong airport Skypier to Shekou in Shenzhen where you can obtain a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival that costs an affordable 130 CNY. Opening hours of Shekou visa on arrival office are 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30, so plan accordingly.

After your stay in Shenzhen, you can return back to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing you want and also any mean of transport, direct, high speed train included.

The ferries are operated by CKS (Chu Kong Passenger Service) and departure times of ferries for Shekou are at 08:15, 09:45, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00... All other ferries arrive in Shekou port outside the visa office opening hours.
