Overstayed in China for a few months

Can’t I just go to my home country with my Chinese wife and pay the fine at the airport as we leave?

As you have overstayed for too long, I'm afraid you cannot just pay the fine at the airport and leave, but need to go to the local PSB to deal with the overstay at first.
