About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

British national entering guangzhou

Hi there! Please can i just ask whether the below is possible.

I am a british passport holder flying from Seoul, South Korea into Guangzhou, and then plan to stay for 3-4 days and then taking train to Hong Kong and stay for 3-4 days before flying back to London.

Can i just ask,

Do i still need the 144 hour visa for my stay in GuangZhou?

Once i enter Hong Kong, am i still within the 144 hour visa or am i automatically converted to visa exempt and can stay for a longer time as British passport holders are visa exempt in Hong Kong?

You can enjoy 144 hour visa free transit valid for entire Guangdong province if your travel itinerary is:

Seoul - Guangzhou - Hong Kong

And you do not have any additional landing before Guangzhou of any kind within mainland China or in Hong Kong.

So, if your flight from Seoul to Guangzhou is a nonstop one, you are fine and you do not need any kind of visa.

Before your departure from Seoul, you will have to buy your train ticket from Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Hong Kong and after you have bought it you will print it out and have that printout with you at hand ready to be presented to relevant authorities as a proof of your transit.

Upon landing in Guangzhou, the first thing you will do is to approach 144 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your travel itinerary. After a short check you will be granted a temporary entry permit and you will head to the immigration to enjoy your days in Guangdong province on your own.

When the time comes, you will really have to take exactly that train for Hong Kong West Kowloon station, you have bought your ticket for. Have a nice journey.

Also, you do not need any kind of visa free transit or visa in general in the Chinese territories of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau because they have their separate immigration policy and UK passport holders can travel and stay there visa free.
