Getting Residence Permit in Foreign Passport

Hello,

My son was born outside China, British father and Chinese mother. He has a UK passport, and we came into China on a Q1 visa. We’re now being told that the baby must be Chinese, because his mum is Chinese. But we want him to have a British passport, and a residence permit in his passport. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

It's possible if his mother is a Chinese citizen. Bring his UK passport, birth certificate, his monther's Chinese ID card and some other basic requirements when submit the application.

Hi Will,
If your son came to China under Q1 visa, but you were told that your son’s nationality is China by government official, this can be caused by two possible scenarios:
1.Your wife has obtained a PR of other country when she gave birth to your son, and;
2.The embassy staff issue a wrong Q1 visa.
If your wife does not have any kind of PR, your son’s nationality is officially China.
