About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai Visa Free entry

We are flying from Vientiane 2nd of January to Shanghai with arrival 3rd of January. Then flying to Amsterdam 4th of January 2025. Will we be eligible for Visa Free entry ? Thanks for your help.

The answer is yes. You will be covered by either 24 or 144 hour visa free transit based on the length of your stay in Shanghai. If your stay is shorter than 24 hours, it will be 24 hour visa free transit and if it is just a minute longer than 24 hours, it will be 144 hour visa free transit. In any case, you do not need any kind of visa.

The first thing that you will do upon your landing in Shanghai is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for free for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight itinerary and your accommodation booking if you plan to spend a night in the hotel. After a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and you will proceed to the immigration to exit the airport and to spend some time in Shanghai on your own. Have a nice journey.
