If you travel to Guangzhou by train, a ready visa will be needed. You can apply for it at China Visa Application Service Center in HK.

Or you can take advantage of 144-hour visa-free transit. But in the case, you need to fly into Guangzhou from HK and at the end, leave for another country or region.

Hi Emily, is your information updated for HK-> Guangzhou? Seems like you would be able to enter from HK to Guangzhou via the seaports of Nansha and shekou? I was also reading that you can exit via HK’s west Kowloon station, can you confirm?

You are right. To use the 144 in Guangdong Province, you can also enter Guangdong by ferry to Nanshan Port or Shekou Port from HK and can exit by train visa West Kowloon. Remember to get the train ticket before you enter Guangdong.
