I am self employed and want to travel to china to buy my goods what paperwork do I need to produce for visa approval.

Travel to China for business? Then you will need a M visa
The main requirements for M visa are:
Passport with at least 6-month validity
Visa Application Form and Photo
Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity or individual.

You can go to the embassy directly to submit your application.
