Re-entry to China on X1

Hello. I have entered China with my X1. I plan to travel in 3 days upon my arrival so I will not have time to submit and receive my permanent residency. Can I re-enter China (on visa-free entry) and apply for permanent residency?

I think you mean the residence permit for study in China. The regulation says that you need to apply for the permit within 30 days after you enter China with a X1 visa. And note that you can enter only once with the X1 visa. To be on safe side, it's advised you get the permit after entry, and then start your travel and re-enter China with the permit.
