Guangzhou Transit to New Zealand

Hello, we are booked on a China Southern flight to New Zealand and transiting through Guangzhou for 2 hours.
Holding a Philippine passport, do we need a transit visa? Wanna make sure that we're understanding it, cause the 24 hour visa seems like it's just for those who wants to leave the airport. Thank you.
