I want to travel from HCMC to Hong Kong to Beijing to Phnom Penh

Hello,

I'm an American living in Vietnam. I want to visit Beijing under the 144 hour visa free transit visa. If I fly direct from HCMC to Hong Kong and then from Hong Kong to Beijing and then departing Beijing to Phnom Penh. Would I be eligible for the 144 hour visa free entry?
