Acquiring a China visa in a third country

I will be travelling for a few months in Asia so cannot apply for a China visa in my home country of Canada. Can I apply for a China visa in Katmandu, Nepal and fly to China and on to Canada>

I'm afraid you can't as you are not a long-term resident in these countries.
