I am a UK passport holder living in Hong Kong. Is it possible for me to book return flights from Shenzhen? Can i use the train to travel from HK to SZ to catch my flights and not need a Chinese visa?

Sorry you cannot take a train to Shenzhen to enjoy the 24h visa free transit. You can take MTR to Luohu Port to apply for Shenzhen visa on arrival, then catch the flight.
