Travelling by train from Hong Kong

Hello, I intend to travel to Beijing from Hong Kong by high-speed train. Can I use my type L visa if I am willing to travel by train? Will the immigration process be in Hong Kong train station? We can show our return flight from Beijing back to home country. My nationality does not apply for the 144 hours transit visa.
