About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour visa free transit for Shanghai > Japan > Hong Kong

Hey, looking to do multiple stops over the course of a couple of weeks, does this route work on 144 hour visa free transit?
London to Shanghai (spending around 4 days)
Shanghai to Japan (leaving the same airport as we arrived at)
Japan to Hong Kong
Hong Kong to London.

Thanks in advance?

Yes, your flight itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Shanghai area and you do not need any kind of visa. By the way, it is really not important even if you have used two different airports within Shanghai area because this is perfectly allowed.

As far as your second part of itinerary is concerned, here the visa free transit is not relevant since Hong Kong is not part of this scheme because it has its own, autonomous immigration policy and you as UK citizen can enter, stay and transit in Hong Kong for very long periods, absolutely visa free. To summarize, you do not any kind of visa for your entire planned itinerary.
