About:Visa on Arrival

Minimum time for visa

Hi, I arrive at shenzhen airport from heathrow at 17:10, and then fly out at 16:25 the next day to Bangkok. I have booked a hotel in Shenzhen and planned to spend the evening and morning exploring Shenzhen. However, I have seen a few posts of people being refused a visa due to the layover being too short and having to sleep in the airport for almost 24 hours.

Is there a minimum time required to get the visa, and is there anything I can do to ensure I can leave the airport?

Actually, this is not a visa, but 24 hour visa free transit. In other words, you do not need a visa because you will travel absolutely visa free. Also, Shenzhen airport is not issuing 5 days Shenzhen visas on arrival if you were thinking about this option. Consequently, there is no minimum time required, but this is valid only for 3 designated border crossings between Hong Kong and Mainland China.

I understand your concerns, but I am more than certain that you will be allowed to exit the airport. Here is what will you do. Immediately upon your arrival in Shenzhen, you will approach transit counter where you will apply, please, use exact wording, temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets that you are encouraged to have them as printouts. Also, if you plan to have an overnight in a hotel, present also a hotel booking confirmation as a printout as well. This application is free of any charge. After a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and allowed to cross the immigration and to enjoy your time on your own.

As you can see, you will apply for a totally different thing than Shenzhen VOA is. Have a nice journey.
