What is the best option to be able to leave the airport for a long layover without needing to stay overnight?

You are eligible for Hainan 30-day Visa-free Access. Upon landing, just head for the immigration counter and get a stamp, then you will be allowed to leave the airport. If you want to have a day trip in Haikou during the 12-hour layover, you can take the shuttle bus line 2 to Holiday Beach and enjoy a seascape of Qiongzhou Strait there.
