Visiting Shenzhen

With a US passport, can I take the high speed train to Shenzhen and get the visa on arrival?

No, the railway stations in Shenzhen does not issue visas. Sorry for that:(
You need to arrive at Shenzhen airport, Luohu port, Huanggang port, or Shekou port to apply for the entry permit.
