Nepali citizens can transit through China using 24 hour visa free transit even by using two consecutive Chinese airports. The main detail here is that the entire transit time, counted from the first scheduled stop in China, until the last scheduled departure from China, is not longer than 24 hours. Your friend will do the following:

- Print out his flight tickets and have those printouts at hand.
- When flying to China, aboard the plane will be dispensed arrival/departure cards and he will fill out one and tick transfer as the purpose of visit.
- Upon first landing, he will immediately approach transit counter where he will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting his flight tickets. This application is free of charge.
- When a permit is granted, he will cross the immigration and head to his next flight that will be a domestic one.
- At his second airport, he will cross the immigration and head to his flight that will take him out of China to his final destination outside of China.

Basically, this is it.
