About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa and luggage pickup

Hello!

We are flying from Seoul to Copenhagen with the same flight company (Air China), changing flights in Beijing Capital Airport.
We arrive to Beijing from Seoul at 14.14 and have to fly again from Beijing to Copenhagen the day after at 13.05.

We are planning on visiting the Great Wall right after landing and staying for the night in Mutianyu, which means we have to leave the airport.

Our passports have Danish, South Korean and Spanish nationalities.

Do we need a visa for this plan? After reading your great post, I understand we can just leave the airport under the “24-hour transit without visa” category, but I would like to make sure of it.
Do we have to pick up our luggage and check it in again in the morning, or does it get transferred directly to the next flight to Copenhagen?

Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Stephan

The answer to your question is very simple.

Your entire layover will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit because your total transit time is shorter than 24 hours and you do not need any kind of visa.

When you land in Beijing you will immediately approach transit counter where you will apply, read carefully, temporary entry permit. This application is for free and here you will present your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation. Please, have them in hard copy for easier handling. After a very short check, you will be granted a permit and you will exit the airport in order to proceed with your planned activities including a visit to the Great Wall and the overnight in Mutianyu.

Since you are traveling on a single ticket, your luggage will be tagged all the way to Copenhagen and you do not have to bother with it in Beijing at all. You will just confirm this detail at the time of your check-in in Seoul just to be 100% certain about this particular detail.

Just one more detail... Your Spanish colleague does not have to bother with the formality of temporary entry permit because Spanish citizens can enter China just with their passports because they can travel to China visa free for stays of up to 15 days. Also, you will get an arrival/departure card on board of the plane, you will fill them out and as your purpose, you will tick - transit.
