About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72/144 hour visa free eligibility

I would like to confirm that I am able to use the 72 hour or 144 hour Visa free transit option for China. I’m travelling from Seoul South Korea to Beijing Capital Airport. I’m staying 3 nights then flying from Beijing to Auckland New Zealand via a 4 hour stop in Shanghai. Thanks.

No, unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit because you have two mainland Chinese cities in a row. You will have to obtain a visa in advance or to alter (adapt) your itinerary to comply with 144 hour visa free transit rules. It is 144 hour visa free transit in both Beijing and Shanghai areas. So, you cannot have two mainland Chinese cities in a row and also your immediate points before and after your mainland Chinese destination have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). I hope you will find some solution for your travel plans.
