About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72/144 hour Transit visa still active?

Hi - we have a 2-day stopover in Beijing on our way from Tokyo to london in April 2024. Wanted to check if 72 hour or 144 hour transit visa still active and being issued at the Beijing airport?
Also will we able to visit Great Wall of China during our stay in Beijing if we get the transit visa?
Also while going from London to Japan, we have a 3.5 hour stopover in Shanghai - I assume we don’t need a transit visa for this as we will be within airport boundaries.

Thank you

Very important detail is that it is 144 visa free transit and there is no any kind of visa. Assuming what did you want to ask, the answer is very simple, both 24 and 144 hour visa free transits are available and used by thousands. Also, Beijing and Shanghai have 144 hour and not 72 hour visa free transit for many years.

Your itinerary, if you have mentioned your all stops and if you have a passport of eligible citizenship (UK citizenship is eligible) is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing and you do not need any kind of visa. You are free to enjoy and explore wider Beijing area.

For your journey back, your transit will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit because your layover is shorter than 24 hours and you do not need any kind of visa. All in all, you are fine to go visa free.
