Canadian with HK Resident card applying for China Visa

Season Greetings; My wife is from Hong Kong and have a HK resident card, and also is a Canadian resident with Canadian Passport. Everytime she goes back to HK with her Canadian passport, she was required to show her HK card. Her HK card is now expired and she would like to go back to renew it. At the same time we would like to travel to Mainland China, Beijing, Shanghai next year. Would you be able to tell me if my wife can apply for a tourism visa with her Canadian passport or she is required or she require to apply with her HK card? If with her HK card, can she go to HK first and then to the Mainland, or she is required to go to the Mainland first, then to HK? We hope that you can help with our questions. Thanks in advance.

She can apply for a Chinese visa according to her passport. It doesn't matter to go to mainland first to HK first.
