Booking Chinese train tickets before new passport is issued?

I'd like to buy/reserve train tickets well in advance - but one of us will need to renew their passport shortly before entering China (about a week before). Can the passport number be changed for existing bookings? If yes, does this involve any charges? Or can we travel with both passports (we'll have the old one with us) and show this to board the trains?

Hi Sebastian, I'm sorry to tell you that the passport number cannot be changed for the existing bookings. If your old passport is still valid, there is no problem of boarding the train by showing it. However, if it expires when taking the train, you may not board the train.
