About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Madrid to Saigon (Vietnam) flight

Hi, we are a married couple that will travel from Spain (MAD) to Vietnam (SGN)
The flight will be like this:
MAD - PEK
PEK - SGN
Return will be exactly the same but the opposite.
Route will stop at PEK for 16 hours or so, before going to SGN. Including return.

Now the question is, I have visa free to China since I am a Spanish citizen, but my wife has Vietnamese passport.
Is there any way she can get any transit visa to go out of the airport for some hours and then come back for our next flight?
Otherwise, if we can't go out is there any lounge with bed or something similar where we can spend long hours?
I don't know what terminal we'll be arriving from MAD or from SGN at the return flight. So advice would be very appreciated.

Many thanks.

You are correct when you say that you are not required to perform any formality because you are arriving from a country whose citizens do not need a visa to enter China. In other words, you will enter China in the same way as if you are entering UK, for example. However, your Vietnamese, although she has every right to travel visa free through China based on 24 hour visa free transit, has to apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. So, this is not a visa of any kind, but a permit that allows a passenger to exit the airport for some limited time.

She will, in your company because it will be more suitable, apply for a temporary entry permit at the transit counter (desk) immediately upon landing in Beijing. If you plan to have an overnight in Beijing then you will book your accommodation and have a printout of your hotel booking. I would say, that the airport officials will grant her a permit, that comes for free, because of the length of your layover and because of you that can enter China visa free. When you obtain a permit for her, you will exit the airport and explore the city in the way you prefer.

In case if the permit is not granted, you can enjoy Air China "Transit Lounge". They are offering this lounge for international to international flight passengers, but not on a code share tickets, but only if the entire journey is on Air China. They offer 4 hours of room rest and practically unlimited hours in rest lounge. Please, just check Air China website for more information.
