About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Saigon-Nanning-Chengdu-Auckland

Hello, I am flying from Ho-Chi-Minh city to Auckland, with to stopovers in mainland China, first in Nanning and second in Chengdu. The time spent in China is less than 24 hours. Do I qualify for the 24 TWOV? I will have to leave the “international” area of Nanning airport and go on a domestic flight within China.

Sandro, the entire transit time is calculated from your first landing in China, in your case in Nanning, until your last departure from China, in your case from Chengdu. In other words, all the segments like layovers and also the flying time between the Chinese cities are taken into calculation. I'm telling you this because people use to calculate only their layover times and without taking a flying time into calculation too. So, if your entire transit time, taking into account all the above mentioned segments is still less than 24 hours, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in China.

The fact that you will have to take a domestic flight between Nanning and Chengdu is perfectly fine. You will just apply for 24 hour free entry permit upon your landing in Nanning and shortly after that you will be allowed to literally enter China and use a domestic flight.
