Actually, there is no difference between children and adults as far as the visa is concerned.
The good detail is that you will easily obtain a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival at one of eligible border crossings: Huanggang, Lo Wu (Luohu) and Shekou. The first two are overland and the third is a sea border crossing. If I were you I would take a direct ferry from Macau to Shekou operated by TurboJet ferries. Please, just have in mind that Shekou visa office opening hours are: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30, so plan your arrival there accordingly. The price for a Shenzhen VOA for Portuguese citizens is 275 CNY.
As far as the documents are concerned, passport is enough and maybe you can bring a hotel or other accommodation confirmation for the first overnight in Shenzhen. Just one detail... After your stay in Shenzhen, you can return to either Macau or to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport.
