There are no restrictions, however, you should be aware that a visa fee (130 CNY) will apply for children as well. The validity of Shenzhen VOA is 5 days, but the day of entry is not counted against those 5 days. In other words, the first day starts on the day following your entry. If you enter on July 10, the first day of your 5 days begins on July 11 at 00:01. The procedure of obtaining a VOA may take about 45 - 60 minutes. You should be aware that Shenzhen VOA limits you to Shenzhen city limits only. In case if you would like to see a larger part of China, I would suggest you to rely on 240 hour visa free transit. You can take a ferry from Hong Kong to Macau and then from Macau to Shekou port in Shenzhen. After your visit to Shenzhen, Guangzhou and many other places, you will return by high speed train back to Hong Kong. It is important to understand that an exit ticket from mainland China toward Hong Kong has to be bough even before your departure toward mainland China. In case of a Shenzhen VOA, you do not have to do that. You can exit whenever you want and in the way you want. If you plan to proceed with a Shenzhen VOA, the best place to do that is Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing. Have a nice visit to China.
