About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144-hour transit visa

We are US citizens, and will travel from Denver to Hong Kong for a few days, then Hong Kong to Seoul for a few days. The last part of our trip will be Seoul—Beijing for a 5 day stay. We return to the US from Beijing. However, that flight has two stops, the first being Seoul. The US is our final destination, but is it a problem that the first leg goes to Seoul? Thanks!

Unfortunately, your journey is not eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. As you know, only the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination matter. In your case, both immediate points before and after your Chinese destination are in South Korea, so this is considered to be a return trip and not a transit. You will need a visa to perform this journey or you can adapt your itinerary to be eligible by, for example, introducing Taiwan... For example...

Seoul - Taipei - Beijing - Seoul - US

The above example is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit...
