About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from Japan to Nepal via Shanghai and Kumming

Hi, I am planning to fly from Tokyo-> Shanghai->Kumming->Kathmandu with China Eastern.
I guess I have to enter China because it includes a domestic flight.
I wonder if I do not need transit visa (whether I can obtain 24-hour visa-free entry permit) with this itinerary, as entry airport and exit airport are different.
The time between arrival time at Shanghai and departure time at Kumming is less than 24 hours.

Your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit exactly because your entire transit time within mainland China, counted from your first scheduled arrival until your last scheduled departure, is less than 24 hours long.

Upon your landing in Shanghai, you will first approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit because you will really enter China and will proceed to Kunming on a domestic flight. This is all fine and this permit is free of any charge. After the permit is granted, you will proceed to Kunming and in Kunming you will exit China by boarding your flight to Kathmandu. You should just check at check-in in Tokyo whether your luggage will be tagged all the way to Kathmandu, so that you can travel with absolute peace of mind.
