About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the layover city on the way to PEK and leaving PEK count as A and C?

Flying 11/25 arriving 11/27 in PEK. CLT-SFO-PEK, return 12/3 PEK-NRT-IAH-CLT. Does it matter if I am only connecting through country C and not spending any time there?

It is important to have in mind that only the immediate points (cities) before and after a mainland Chinese city matter. It does not matter if you only have a short transit or you live in that city. So, it is necessary that the immediate points (cities) before and after a mainland Chinese city are in two different countries or eligible territories. Eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

In other words, if your itinerary is precisely presented, and if your immediate points before and after Beijing are San Francisco and Tokyo, they your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Beijing area and you do not need any kind of visa.
