connecting flights

I have a couple of questions regarding this process.

1. Does my flight have to be booked through the same carrier throughout or am I able to book two separate carriers (arrival in China and departure in China)?

2. Do my flights have to be round trip (Seoul-Beijing-Hong Kong, Hong Kong-Beijing-Seoul) or can I book a one-way flight to Hong Kong with a layover in Beijing (Seoul-Beijing-Hong Kong) with a separate return flight?

Thank you :-)

This is usual question and so easy to answer. You are allowed to use different, unrelated airlines and also tickets of different types, one way, return, multi-city, whatever as long as your itinerary is eligible. Just one ticket is not allowed and that is a standby ticket. So, just feel to combine airlines and tickets, but just take care to have an eligible itinerary :)

1. Different carriers and separate tickets are fine.
2. It does not need to be a round trip.
