Visa requirement for HKG - Shanghai (US citizen)

I’m arriving into Hong Kong from the US for three days, then getting on a cruise ship that will call in Shanghai. It will stay over one night in port then depart for South Korea. Shanghai will be the only port of call in mainland China. The tours will be booked by the cruise line with approved tour guide operators.

Do I need a visa for either Hong Kong or Shanghai?
