About:Visa on Arrival

5-day visa declined with no reasons provided

Today I came to the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border at Lo Wu port with my passport (I am a citizen of Kazakhstan) and wanted to apply for a 5-day visa. The officer declined my application and refused to provide me with any reasons. My friends told me it was because they had reached the limit of Kazakhstani citizens entering China from that port and I should try again tomorrow. I am worried because there is absolutely no information about this procedure on their website, and I don't know whom to call and where can I find any information regarding this issue of mine.

Unfortunately, as anywhere in the world, border officials are not obliged to offer any reason for rejection of visa or entry. Following the granting and rejections of Shenzhen VOA trend, I can just conclude that the Chinese visa office officials are following the logic of 53 countries. I mean, there are 53 countries whose citizens are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. It seems that, at least at the time being, Chinese visa office officials issue visas only to them and to some other, but this is more an exception than a rule. Also, you will not find any website that will confirm that you are eligible or not as well as you will not find anybody that will present you the reasons why were you rejected or if you will be eligible for visa the day after.

If you want to take chances, I would suggest you to take the first ferry from Hong Kong directly to Shekou port in Shenzhen and I predict that if you appear there, it would be quite an inconvenience for a Chinese authorities to turn you back. If you do not want to take chances, then you are remained with just two options, to obtain a Chinese visa in advance or to postpone your trip for some other time.
