About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

documents for 24-hour visa-free entry permit

Hi - we'll have a 10h layover in PEK. Should we want to go for a quick tour in the city what documents are needed to apply for a 24-hour visa-free entry permit? Any request or form needs to be prepared before flying, or it's all done on site at the airport passport control? What documents do I need to have with me? Any Covid related documentation needed? Thanks!

Fabrizio, documents you need are: your flight itinerary that shows that you will leave Beijing to a third country, photo of a negative DIY test on your smartphone and filled in the Chinese Health Declaration Form. Also, you do not need and kind of visa because you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit.

In order to be allowed to exit the airport and to join the tour, you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. This permit is free of charge. Anyway, here we have arrived to the most delicate segment. Although you are allowed to travel visa free, this does not imply that you will be granted a temporary entry permit. The granting of the permit depends on the sole discretion of the airport officials and does not belong to the rights of those in transit. So, it is important for you to know this detail. I am intentionally emphasizing this detail because the experience has shown that Beijing airport is among the strictest as far as the issuing of the permits is concerned. So, you should definitely try to obtain one, but you cannot take a positive outcome as granted. In any case, I hope, you will be granted a permit.
