About:China Visa on Arrival

Use Hainan as exit from China

Hello!
I'm currently in Mainland China with a double entry visa. My first entry is about to expire, I need to exit and re-enter. If I take the boat to hainan, does it count as an exit? I would like to go there, stay one month, then enter China again. Thank you in advance!

I'm sorry, but Hainan can't be counted as an exit. You can go to Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, and they are counted as an exit.

Well, Taiwan was plan A. But I heard since COVID that foreigners cannot board the ferry (I don't fly). Can you confirm this information?
If Hainan is not counted as an exit, can I still go there on my current visa, and when the visa expire stay 30 days free?

Yes, it is not possible to take a ferry to Taiwan now.

What you mentioned belongs to overstay and it is not recommended. If you don't want to exit and re-enter, the best way is to extend your stay in the local entry and exit administration bureau. The Hainan 30-day Visa-Free Access is only eligible for those who come from abroad directly, and you cannot get it if you are from China mainland cities.
