About:Visa on Arrival

Shenzhen Visa application for european citizen

Hi,
I am a belgian citizen, I will arrive at Hong Kong at 10pm, so I will take an hotel near the airport. The next day, I am planning to take the ferry, from Skypier in HK to Shekou. Do I need to apply the visa at the port in Hong Kong and then I go to Shekou port with the ferry, or when I arrive at Shekou, there is a visa office ? Is there any indication to find it easily? Where is this office exactly ? Regarding the opening hours, I will go to SZ the 4th July, so it is tuesday. Are the opening hours sure or is it better to come earlier? What time do you recommend to go to Visa office?
Thank you very much

I assume that you know that you cannot use Skypier if you cross Hong Kong immigration... In other words, you have to stay in the hotel located airside. The first crossing of immigration will be in Shenzhen. Also, you will apply for a 5 days Shenzhen visa at Shekou port visa office upon your arrival there. The first available ferry from Skypier to Shekou departs at 08:15. I suggest you to be on that ferry.

When you arrive in Shekou you will easily find a visa office. If you do not see it immediately, do not worry, you will be told where to go. Shekou visa opening hours are: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30. You can also take a ferry departing at 09:45 or 11:00, but to avoid possible longer waiting times, that at 08:15 is ideal.

Thank you for your reply. I will stay at Four points by Sheraton, near the airport. I will cross the immigration in Hong Kong. I thought I could go to Shekou port from Skypier. I have seen that there is Hong Kong Macau Ferry and use a Ferry to Shekou. Do you think that it will be better for me to use this Ferry to go to Shekou?
Usually I go from Luohu port and Huanggang Port port. It is the first time I will use a Ferry.

Unfortunately, you cannot use a Skypier if you cross the immigration to Hong Kong. Skypier is strictly dedicated for those in transit to different places in mainland China and to Macau. When you have crossed the immigration to Hong Kong, you cannot use Skypier. It is good that I have mentioned this detail because many are not aware of that fact.

So, if you still want to use a ferry, you will have to travel to Hong Kong center and take a ferry from there, Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal to be precise (sometimes called Sheung Wan) by CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport to Shekou. Ferries depart at 09:00, 11:30 and 18:00. It is logical that you will take one departing at 09:00. It is very easy to reach the terminal by taking Airport Express train. I consider the ferry option by far better than taking overland crossings because the overland crossings are currently very congested and if you do not arrive before 09:00 it is a question whether you will manage to cross the border on that day.

If you take a ferry departing from Hong Kong at 11:30, you will reach Shekou by 12:30, but then you will have to wait until 14:00 for the visa office to open.

Now, you have several information and you will decide what will you do. Hopefully, this helps...

Thank you very much for your help, it is very precious. I will follow your advice and use the ferry at Hong Kong Macau Ferry. Overland crossings is very complicate. Before I was going to Shenzhen by this way and I lost a whole day just to pass the border.
Do you think that it will be better to buy a ticket in advance to be sure to have a place at 9:00 in the Ferry? Do you have any website link where we can already order our ferry ticket?
I ask you a lot of question but you are very helpful and you know a lot of things.
Thank you very much for your help.

It would be wise to buy a ticket for 09:00 ferry that is provided by CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport. CKS has a website and you can also buy your ticket without much problem. I cannot post a link because the system automatically removes them. You will find the website by searching the web. You will be just fine :)

Hi,
I have still several questions.
Actually I was on the website CKS but when I add my dates, it says that there is no ferry. I have checked from Skypier and there is some ferries. I would like to know if it is normal that at the date of 4th July 2023, there is no ferry from HK-Macau Ferry Terminal to Shekou?
I have checked on internet for COVID test and everywhere it says there is no need a PCR test to enter in HK and SZ, but I would like to be sure. Do we need a PCR test, if we come from Belgium? I fly with Emirates, so I have a transit in Dubai.
Thank you for your help.

Actually, as I can see the CKS website has not yet loaded in the timetable their departures starting from July 1. They have departures in the timetable until June 30. If you take a look for the reverse, i.e. Shekou to Hong Kong route on July 4, you will see that they operate normally. I would say that they will have some adjustments for departures after July 1, so you will have to be patient to allow their departure adjustments to be loaded in the timetable.

You do not need PCR test, but since you will not stay in Hong Kong long enough, you will make a DIY test and take a photo of its outcome that will be a negative one. Also, you will fill out the Chinese Health Declaration, just for the peace of mind, although you will not be asked for that at all.

To conclude, you will take your test before your departure from Belgium and have it with you just for a case as well as health declaration form.

If CKS does not publish their timetables until July 4, there will be no other way, but to take a train to Luohu and to apply for a visa there. In my opinion, they will definitely do it... I know, all those details make you somewhat nervous, but just be relaxed because there is a solution always.
