About:10-year China Visa

Dual citizen looking to get 10-year tourist visa

Hi, I am a dual citizen of US and Germany, and I live in Germany. I want to get a 10-year tourist visa, so I need to apply with my US passport. Therefore, can I apply with my US passport here in Germany? I would be applying to the consulate in Frankfurt, and my understanding is that I'll need to apply in person because these days they require your fingerprint. I have already applied there for tourist visas in the past with my German passport (I used a visa agency), but this time I want a 10-year visa so I need to use my US passport.

Also, I called the consulate in Frankfurt, and they said applying with my US passport "is possible, but no guarantee you'll get a 10-year visa". Therefore, I want to ask: Will I have a better chance of getting it if I fly to the US and apply there instead of Germany? Or are my chances generally not affected by where I apply for my visa? In addition, if I apply in the US, can I use a visa agency/service to submit and pick up my 10-year visa application?

Apologies for the many questions, but I've been researching this for many hours and haven't found any real answers. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

As I know, it is true the rejection rate would be higher if you apply it in Germany. If you apply in US, you will have a larger possibility to get succeed. I'm afraid you have to apply in person to Chinese consulate in USA because they will also take in your fingerprint and agency service may not be available. Anyway, you can also consult one and have a try. Remember to fill in the application form and make an appointment in advance. Good luck!

Thank you John. In that case, it'd probably be safer right now to just apply for a normal single entry visa with my German passport as I have done in the past. I plan to fly to China in around 2 months, so I really need to make sure I can get a visa. I heard they're quite busy these days, so I'm slightly worried 2 months is too short, but on the other hand there are still several appointments available this month, so maybe I'm fine?

One last question: I'll be flying to the US this year as well, and thus will try to apply for the 10-year visa while I'm there. If I get it, I'll basically have two visas: One in my US passport, and one in my German passport. Is it allowed to have two visas like this, or will this cause problems? Thanks again.

Hi, Jim, two months are enough for you to apply for a visa. If I understand correctly, you will apply for a 10-year visa after your China trip, which means your visa on German passport would not be effective any longer after you get your 10-year visa. So you don't need to worry too much. However, to be honest, I'm also not very clear about what if two visas are both effective.
