About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 HOURS TRANSIT VISA (AMSTERDAM - BEIJING - HONG KONG - BEIJING - AMSTERDAM)

Hello :)
We just bought return flight tickets from Madrid to Beijing via Amsterdam and back. But then realized that third country of destination needs to be different from origin (Madrid) to obtain the 144 hours Transit Visa. So for the day before our return flight to Madrid, we are thinking to buy another return flight ticket from Beijing to Hong Kong and back to Beijing in the same day so we will be able to get our flight back from a Beijing to Madrid via Amsterdam. Would be possible to do this combination?

Do we also need to make reservation for hotels during the 5 nights of stay Beijing and Hebei Province or for the first night would be enough?

Last question is: During our 5 days around Beijing and Hebei we would like to visit Shandong Province but if I´m not wrong is not allowed to cross provinces by road, so would be possible to get flight ticket from Beijing to Qingdao and the return to Beijing?

Thank you very much for your help :)

Hello,

Your reasoning goes in good direction because by purchasing a return ticket Beijing - Hong Kong - Beijing, your itinerary will look exactly like this:

(Madrid) - Amsterdam - Beijing (144 h) - Hong Kong - Beijing (144) - Amsterdam - (Madrid)

As you can see, you will have right to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing twice. There is no doubt about it at all.

It is highly advisable to have the first night booked and have your accommodation booking confirmation with you at the time of your arrival in Beijing. You are also correct that the area you are allowed to stay and explore in the way you like is Beijing, Tianjin and the entire Hebei province.

As far as Shandong province is concerned, you cannot travel there from Beijing transit area and remain in visa free transit. You have to do something creative like:

Amsterdam - Beijing (144 h) - Seoul - Qingdao (144 h) - Taipei - Beijing (144 h) - Amsterdam

Like this even Shandong province would be visa free for 6 days of your visit. I understand that this option requires a nice number of flights and also the costs, but this is the way to go without a visa.

Hello Borut,

Thank you for your answer :)

Would be possible if arriving to Beijing Capital Imternational Airport to depart from different airport within Beijing area? Like the Daxing Airport?

About your answer, are you 100% sure about it? Since I worry how inmigration will take my double entre within 1 or 2 days :)

Last question: Do you have any recent information if we need to bring PCR test or Antigen test? We called embassy but looks like they do not like to answer, and also KLM does the same so we really worry about this.

Thank you very much,

Victor

Hello, Victor,

I am really and without any doubt 100% certain that you can use not only Daxing, but also Tianjin, Shijiazhuang Zhengding and Qinhuangdao Beidaihe airports beside Beijing Capital airport without any problem. This is perfectly allowed and when you successfully travel using this visa free transit option, you will come here again and open a topic saying that the details we are talking here about are definitely correct. In other words, you are allowed to mix different airports and even some sea ports without any problem.

As far as covid test is concerned the rule adopted from April 29 says:

"You must undertake a lateral flow/rapid antigen test (DIY) 48 hours before boarding your flight. You must declare your negative test result by filling in the Health Declaration Form via the China Customs website, or through the China Customs App or WeChat account. Airline officials will no longer check test results. However, upon arrival in China your test result may be checked by officials at customs.

Hello Borut,

Thank you again for your answer :)

This might be a stupid question, but never know ;)
When they say that you need to leave to a third country with comfirmed seats, does it mean that we need to select our seat number of only buy ticket flights, as it is not possible to select seats unless you pay extra fees or wait until check in time, right?

I’m thinking about to buy just return tickets to Belgium or London so this will be a different country and I don’t need to buy many flights ;) This option should be valid too right?

Thank you,

Victor

The requirement of the seat number is redundant and is not required at all. Just forget about this detail.

Victor, you have confused me with your last question? We were talking about:

Amsterdam - Beijing - Hong Kong - Beijing - Amsterdam

And now you are talking about a return (round trip) tickets to Belgium or London?

Does this mean that you give up on the second segment, i.e. a travel to Hong Kong to get a second 144 h in Beijing?

Or maybe you think about something like this:

Amsterdam - Beijing - Brussels (or London)

If this is the case, it is also valid and you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing.
