About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

UK-Shangai-Hongkong and Hongkong- Shanghai- UK

Hi,
I have couple of question, would appreciate your help on this.

1) I am travelling from UK to Shanghai, Shanghai to HK and Vice versa. This is not a interline ticket. The UK to Shanghai ticket is separate and Shanghai to HK is separate. Do I still qualify for one of the Transit visa? I land at 09:55 in Shanghai and have Flight to HK at 17:00.

2) I have the same ticket back, will i get a second transit visa, If I got one for inbound?

This is perfectly fine and you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit both ways. It is true, you did not mention the time required for transit on your return flight, but I assume that you will be for less than 24 hours in Shanghai. If I am not correct, please, correct me.Anyway, if I am correct, then my conclusion that you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai stands.

I understand that you will be flying on separate (noth through) tickets and this is perfectly fine and acceptable. However, you should be aware that you will have to collect your luggage in Shanghai, apply for a temporary entry permit for free at 24 hour visa free transit counter and then perform your check-in and other formalities for your flight to Hong Kong.

You have right to perform as many as you wish transits of this kind and this is perfectly allowed.

Also, Ram, you should be aware that this is visa free transit, so there is no visa involved of any kind. Please, do not confuse it with temporary entry permit that allows you to exit the airport. This permit is not a visa, but just a permit that allows you to perform formalities regarding your transit formalities and also to travel to the city center if you will have enough time for that.

A bonus is that China is abolishing Covid related tests on April 29!

Thank you so much for you reply. It is such a relief been worrying all morning.

My return flight from HK is on 2nd June, arrive Shanghai at 12:10 and from Shanghai to UK is on 3rd June 11:50. So just under 24 hour? I was hoping to visit Shanghai until my connection to UK.
Ok got you, this will be temporary entry permit and not a visa. And nice, my flight is not until May so will be after the abolishment of covid related test.

Thanks Again
Ram

Ram, you have properly understood all the details and your return itinerary is also covered by 24 hour visa free transit because only the scheduled time is counted and not real arrival and departures. I strongly advise you to book some accommodation in Shanghai for your return journey and to have that accommodation booking confirmation with you.
