Requirements to leave airport in Beijing for a 22 hour stop-over

Doing a 22 hour stop over in Beijing when flying from Australia to Spain. What do I need to prepare for a smooth entry to China to spend the day in a hotel nearby the airport? Covid testing? 24 hour transit visa? I hear people get rejected when asking for it at the airport...

This is very simple and such a pity that your stop is not a bit more longer so making you eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

So, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Beijing and since you have such a long stopover and you will be granted a temporary entry permit. You should do the following:

- You will perform PCR/antigen test and take care that this test is not older than 48 hours at the time of boarding your China bound flight
- You will make a booking for your accommodation and I suggest you to have a confirmation in hard copy
- Upon landing, you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit desk where you will apply for temporary entry permit and will present them your accommodation booking confirmation and your flight to Spain.

After a short check of your documents, you will be allowed to exit the airport and stay at the hotel or to explore the city before you return to the airport for your flight to Spain.
