144 hour visa free hotel stay at mount huashan.

Question

Is it possible to stay in a hotel at Mount Huashan for 2 or 3 nights as part of Xi'an 144 hour visa free transit.  Are you even aloud to visit Mount Huashan because it is outside of the Xi'an city boundary in Weinan area.  The Travel China Guide article on Xi'an 144 hour visa free transit says it can be visited, but is this actually true?

You are perfectly fine to visit and stay in Mount Huashan area because this area is within Xi'an city administrative area. However, you should be careful to plan your flights to and from Xi'an in order to satisfy the conditions of 144 hours visa free transit. In other words, Xi'an can be the only place/stop within Mainland China!
