About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

when to apply + valid reason for extension??

Hello, I wanted to ask for clarification on when to apply for the extension. In this post, it says that my current visa will be cancelled upon the extension being issued, so that means that I should apply almost right before the current one expires (but still at least a week before), right?

Also, if I do end up going to China, I am unsure if my reason for an extended stay past my visa expiration date will be accepted. I have a tourist visa currently, but I will not have anything like a travel itinerary because I was planning on just staying with immediate family living in China.

So, I realized that I actually have a Q2 visa, so I the second part of my question makes no sense. However I would still like to ask what would constitute as a valid reason for extension if I have a Q2 visa, instead. Thank you.

A visa extension applies to a person being in China! If you are not in China, you cannot ‘extend’ a visa. You need to apply for a new one, however I’m not sure whether you’ll be able to during the pandemic.
