Do I need birth certificate?

I am getting PU letter in a few weeks. I am prepared for documents are needed for Chinese Embassy Authorization Stamp (New York). What documents do I need and do I need birth certificate?

What kind of visa do you apply? If you do not apply for family reunion visa, birth certificate is not required. Other documents for submission may include your passport, application form, passport size photo, and other supporting documents to prove your travel purpose.
