About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Traveling from NY to Pakistan with 2-3 days

I am planning to travel in November 2020 from NY with US passport to Pakistan with 2-3 days stay in Shanghai.
Do I need to apply for Chinese visa in advance?

Dear, it needs to be determined by the transit policies at that time. If the 72-hour and 144-hour visa free transit will resume, you won't need a visa. If not, you will need a visa.

So at present Travellers wouldn’t be given 72/144 hours entry to China ?

No, they won't be give the free entry.

Tourists are not allowed to enter China at the moment.
And when you wanna stay in Shanghai for a few days, you have to be in quarantine for 14 days at first before you can visit Shanghai (at present time).
