Can a US citizen living in Thailand obtain a visa for travel in China from the Chinese Embassy in BANGKOK, or do I have to get the Chinese visa before leaving the US?

Jeff, in normal cases, you can apply for a visa in Thailand, but at present, if you travel to China for sightseeing, I'm afraid you can't get the visa, no matter in Thainland or the US.
