If you are now outside of China, you should apply for a new visa rather than extend the expired visa.

if outside of china - you cant enter china on a tourist visa now. if in china - your tourist visa is expiring go to the immigration office 2 weeks before it expires and speak directly to an officer - dont trust the information given by the receptionists! there are flights to every country right now so you will likely be told to leave. if you can get an extension you your current visa will be cancelled and you must pay for a new one. the new visa will likely be for 30-90 days depending on what type of visa you currently have. plan ahead!
