Visa cancellation

I have a tourist 10 year L visa as an American with 60 day multiple entry. The last time I left China was in January 2020 and it’s June 2020 now. I can’t leave because of the virus. China is safer than the USA having the most cases in the world of the virus and riots in major cities. Plane tickets are unaffordable as well.
The question is I already got 1 visa extension for 30 days. Is it possible to keep getting extensions every month? I was told before that if I get 2 extensions it will cancel my 10 year visa. Is that true and what can I do? I am totally stuck and I don’t really have many options.

Damien, if there are fights back home, you may not be able to get extensions every month. It's true your 10 year visa will be cancelled if you get 2 extensions.

as a tourist your visa will be cancelled and they wont issue a new extension because there are flights out of china now. as a tourist you are supposed to have money to pay for your vacation here and your return ticket.. if you dont have money.. youre SOL. contact the embassy or family back home to help you pay for it.

Update! They said that due to the "Rona" that this is a special time and they made a new rule that they will not cancel the 10 year visa now! also asked if they could extend my visa to 60 days instead of 30 days and they said that's fine! with no extra cost. also they said that I can keep renewing my visa until china opens again. so everything worked out super fine! yay. I got my new visa back like 2 weeks ago now and sure enough its 60 days more extended!

Me too, I'm curious to know which city you got your visa renewal in. I went to Shanghai exit entry bureau (main office in Pudong) on July 2 and I was told I will get 60 days extension, but that my 10-year visa would be canceled. I'm over 60 and had some problems with lungs these last years and months. The officer kept the medical reports. I thought that had been a decisive factor to get the new visa. What about yourself? By the way, I'll have to wait 11 days to pick up my visa, if I remember correctly, it used to be vary fast some 10 years ago.

Yeah, what city was that? Stranger things have happened, but I dont believe it. You cant have 2 visas at the same time. Everyone I have talked to had their 10 year visa cancelled. I also called a couple of other cities immigration offices and was told the same thing - IF you qualify for a new visa/extension your old visa will be cancelled. So when every 60 day extension ends you will be buying another one or told to leave if there are flights to America available. Also you are supposed to apply at least 10 days before the visa expires.
