Business visa extension for China.

I have an "M" visa that was to expire on April 2. It has been extended by government decree by 60 days... for all holders. Can I extend further?

That is up to the municipal NIA office. Be aware that an application for extension will void your 10-year visa.

How could an extention of stay void your current visa? You're not applying for a new visa, it's for an extension. So, how could that extension void the visa? Am I missing something?

As far as I know, applying for a visa extension may void your visa, but this is just a little possibility.

As with everything else, there is no direct clear answer to any of this visa extension stuff. You can call one department and get one answer, then call back 30 minutes later and get a totally different one. I've been told I need to physically go to the immigration location by one, told to do it all online by another and told I need not do anything by a third. Spending days traveling and hundreds of dollars on going to a specific department office or spending a month in quarantine, possibly thousands of dollars on hotels, all just for a stamp on a visa that is valid for another 8 years is flat out ridiculous. As is voiding that visa just to get another visa and spending another few hundred on the fees...
