About:China Family Reunion Visa

Hello, I am currently on a 10 year business visa (M) with 60 day duration.

I have been given the 2 month extra added and will expire on June 16-17 2020. My wife is chinese and I’m American but due to the virus it’s unsafe to travel. Will I be able to do the Residency Permit or Q1 while I’m in China so I don’t need to leave the country ? Thankyou

John, I'm afraid at present it's not easy to change your extended business visa to residency permit or Q1 without leaving China, but you can have a try.

Did this work for you? i have been doing some research. some places in china only offer a stay permit which is bad for multi year visa holds as it only last 30 days. there are some places that will offer to do another extension but seems to depend on the mood of the staff from day to day.

Generally speaking, I haven't heard of anyone being able to change their visa type or get a long term visa right now. As far as I know all people without verifiable business or family in China are being told to leave China before their visa expires and apply for a new visa from their home country. If you do have business or family ties, they are cancelling all visas when applying for extensions. The new visa type will be the same as the old one except the duration will be 90-120 days and you need to reapply again when that expires. There have been several people from different cities confirming this here on the forum. If you overstay your visa there could be fines up to 10000 deportation and a ban on future entry to China.

The best advice is to go to the immigration department at least 2-3 weeks before your visa expires and speak with an officer there (not a receptionist - very important!). As each case is unique this is the only way for you to get real answers directly from the source and know for sure what options you have.

Yes you can if you are in tier 1 city. Did by myself few days ago, been visa free in China, applied for stay permit (since in my case you must have any 30 days visa to be able to apply for RP), finished my health check and applied for spouse RP.

If you are married to a chinese National go with your spouse to the PSB in his/her spouses Hometown. First prepare the application, Health Test, and of course bring your passport , marriage certificate (red book) and such. Depending on what visa you have they will cancel it and give you a paper while holding your passport for around 20 days . It was all fairly easy, with the health test and permit it only cost around 500,600 rmb

I would do that as soon as possible, Q1 Q2 Visa is for entering China. And if you go over the time given for the extension you will be required to exit China. For the Spouse Resident Permit you will be given 6 months at first then 1 year . Also with this permit your allowed to exit and enter China as many times during the duration (given China opens back up) after the virus . Still is the safe bet

For the application, all very simple. Do not need to prove income or anything just identification process. And of course a full range health test. You can go to the hospital in the Spouses hometown /city. For example my wife is from a small town in Jiangsu Called Haian, we had to do everything of in Haian but Haian belongs to Nantong so we did the Health test in Nantong . It’s best to speak to the Exit and Entry Bureau in your souses hometown first to check what hospital to go to

Yes I am married to a Chinese National, currently we are residing in Shenzhen far from his hometown, We would like to go back to his hometown to apply for the residence permit (spouse) but due to his work here in Shenzhen and the current situation we are afraid to travel . He is also holding a residence card here in Shenzhen renewable every year.

Anyways thank you for the feedback and insight, we will visit the PSB here next week if what is the best option that we can do about my situation.
Thank you.
