X2 Visa to L or...?

My X2 visa will expire around July, but I want to stay for one more month to have a short vacation and get all of my stuff ready to go. I just need one more month so I figured an L visa would be perfect. I want to avoid leaving China just to apply for one more month and come back again. Is it possible to do this here in Beijing? I doubt I can extend my X2 since I'm won't be studying anymore. Do I have to leave China and apply for a new tourist visa?

If you intend to leave China and re-enter after you have concluded your study, you need a new tourist visa (L) from a Chinese embassy, consulate or high commission. If you do not intend to leave China after you have concluded your study, you can submit an application for a stay visa (otherwise known as a "humanitarian visa") at the local National Immigration Administration office. The humanitarian visa will cease to be valid once you have left China.

Keep in mind that to get a stay visa, some places will need to see your bank statement.
